Tigers president John Chalk has said that wests have sent us a letter but thats it & we will reply to it by law during the week . In the Sunday Telegraph yesterday they had the Tigers ranked at 14th out of 17th , Tigersworld has the been told the reason we are that low is because of Leichhardt Oval & if we were at the SFS wed be ranked as high as 8th , We here at Tigersworld will be fighting against any merger & are hoping that fellow tiger fans will follow in the same direction.

20/2/99 - captaincy tussle now between 2
Either Darren Senter or Jason Lowrie will be selected the Tigers captain for 1999 with tonights game v Sydney City the key tigersworld has learnt that either Lowrie or Senter will get the job but it depends in their performance tonight this is not official but as far as we know both players wil be captain for 1 half each & who ever does better will be given the captaincy , the selection will be released on MAcrh 2 at approximately 9pm or March 3 in the Telegraph in Sydney which is when the side for the cronulla game is released , The Tigers travel to Brisbane tonight to play Sydney City which will be our last trial before the blockbuster v the Cronulla Sharks on March 7.

14/2/99 - Senter set to be named Tigers Captain
In a surprise move for all Tiger supporters hooker Darren Senter is set to be named as Tigers captain for 1999 in front of frontrunners Mark Stimson & Michael Gillett , unfortunately we were unable to find out the captain for last nights game in Coffs Harbour but the reason TigersWorld believe that Senter will be captain is because there was a captains survey in todays Sunday Telegraph in Sydney & Senter was the tiger quizzed . Unfortunately the Tigers had a 44-24 loss last night in Coffs v the Newcastle Knights , full report up soon .

7/2/99 - Triguboff ups sponsorship
Balmain have convinced their chief financial backer, developer Harry Triguboff to increse his sponsorhip of the club for 1999. Meriton Apartments, will now back the Tigers from $400,000, plus incentives.

         - Solo and Tyran show that Tiger Spirit
Solomon Haumono and Tyran Smith are both arriving to training early and completing extra tasks, much to delight of Wayne Pearce as Junior used to do the same thing when he was captaining Balmain.
Additionally, Pearce is revelling in the form of his goal-kickers after Shannon Nevin, Joel Caine and Steven Price converted more than 90 % of their shots at goal against Blayney.

         - Meet Tiger Tim

Tiger Tim will be Balmain mascot for 1999.

5/2/99 - Balmain's coach Wayne Pearce is firm favourite to get the NSW coaching job since the reluctant decision of Tommy Raudonikus to quit as coach and to worry about the survival of Western Suburbs.
Aside from Pearce Storms coach Chris Anderson is another possibility but we'll be more likely to see Junior leading out the Blues.

17/12/98 - The draw has been released for season '99 and here is the link for the draw.

16/12/98 - No Merger!!!!! Garry Jack and Benny Elias have failed in their bid for a spot on the board as 310 Balmain members voted to keep the current board in place in the Annual General Meeting last night. This means that Elias's support for a 3 way merger between Balmain, Sydney City and Souths will not happen. So Balmain has decided on staying alone in season '99!!!
Elias indicated it was unlikely he would stand for election on the Balmain board next year.

13/12/98 - Chargers winger Jason Hudson has signed with the Balmain Tigers. Hudson previously wanted to leave Gold Coast but had one more year on his contract and if he would leave Balmain would be fined under the Anti Poaching rules. But now that Gold Coast aren't in the '99 competition Hudson is no free to play for Balmain. Hudson is an elusive winger who will be a great asset for the backline. Only thing now is which two players out of Milford, Hancock and Hudson will get the positions?

5/12/98 - Wayne Pearce appears set to take over from Tom Raudonikis as NSW State of Origin coach next year. Previously, when it has been suggested that he could be the next NSW coach, Pearce has played the matter down, saying commitments with the Tigers would make him unavailable.
But when it was put to him this week that he had the inside running for the job. he professed an interest in the position for the first time. "I've been intent on developing Balmain as a team and as a club,"he said, "I'm happy with the progress of my players and the team and if something like the NSW job came up I would be interested."
                - The Sydney Kings are requesting help from Junior to help motivate the basketball team.
                - It appears that Jason Hudson is set to join the Tigers since Gold Coast Chargers have decided to not enter into the 1999 season.

28/11/98 - With help from inside sources in appears that Balmain have signed Melbourne Storm centre John Carlaw for 3 years. When released in the media I will give you much more information but for now this is all I can say.
                 - David Baysarri will be next years President Cup coach since the daparture of Dan Stains who is going to the London Broncos.
                 - In other news from inside sources, Balmain greats Gary Freeman and Mick Neil have returned to Leichardt to be involved in the coaching squad to coach lower grades. This year Freeman successfully coached a Parramatta lower grade team to premiership victory over North Sydney.
                 - New recruit Matt Adams can apparently kick the ball furthur than Canberra great Ricky Stuart and Canberra coaching staff are spewing over letting this young talent come to the Tigers.

17/11/98 - Balmain has re-signed talented centre Jacin Sinclair despite the former glamour player's dismal and luckless year with injuries. Sinclair, who rose to prominence five years ago with Souths, has been struck down with a series of injuries since emerging on the scene in 1994.
Strong, fast, skilful and with rare vision, Sinclair had a troublesome year with injury. However Tigers coach Wayne Pearce has shown great faith in Sinclair and decided to give him another opportunity in 1999.
The Tigers are in full-scale training and have been since October 19, with the players enduring four weight sessions and four other field, skills, sprints and agility sessions throughout the week. New recruit from Manly Craig Hancock is impressing everyone at the club with his pace, attitude and athleticism. "Craig would probably be the fastest man in the club," Tigers official Mark Dickens said. Hancock, a Manly junior who was graded in 1989, can play fullback or wing and has more than 150 first grade games under his belt. He is a player with loads of experience and Hancock's speed will be an asset to the Tigers backline.
